Kuala Lumpur, 15^th January 2026 – BMW Group Malaysia today announced the arrival of the All-New BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro – the first-ever fully electric BMW model to be locally assembled – alongside the All-New BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport, the long-wheelbase variant of BMW’s popular compact electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). Together, the new models strengthen the brand’s expanding line-up of electrified offerings, delivering greater range, innovation, and versatility to meet the strong and rising demand for premium electrified mobility in Malaysia.

The All-New BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro marks a major milestone for BMW Group Malaysia and the nation, as the first fully electric BMW model to be assembled in Malaysia and across the Asia-Pacific region. An executive sedan that is suited just as much to business trips as to private journeys, the all-new model introduces the extensively enhanced fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology, offering up to 627 km of electric range (WLTP), alongside a comprehensive suite of intelligent driving assistance systems. Meanwhile, the All-New BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport introduces a stylish, spacious long-wheelbase variant to the popular BMW iX1 portfolio – one year after the local introduction of the First-Ever BMW iX1 eDrive20 M Sport. The new variant provides extended rear-room comfort, hallmark BMW driving dynamics, and an electric range of up to 433 km (WLTP).

The All-New Locally Assembled BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro features a reinterpreted exterior that blends elegant, flowing lines with distinctive, sportier details. The illuminated BMW Shadowline Iconic Glow grille serves as the focal point of the front end, paired with modern Adaptive LED headlights featuring vertical daytime running light elements. The elongated silhouette flows into a sculpted rear section, highlighted by slender LED taillights finished in Shadowline treatment for added visual impact. The M Sport Pro package includes 20-inch M Aerodynamic Wheels 939M Bicolour Black Grey, M rear spoiler in gloss black, M high-gloss shadowline and M Sport brakes in dark blue metallic for a distinctly sporting presence. Luggage capacity is measured at 490 litres, expandable with a 40/20/40 split and accessible via automatic operation of tailgate.

Inside, the driver-oriented BMW Curved Display — comprised of a 12.3-inch instrument display and 14.9-inch touchscreen — forms the centrepiece of the cockpit, combining natural language and touch commands. Smooth adjustments to lighting conditions ensure that drivers have everything in view. Meanwhile, the innovative BMW Interaction Bar, extending across the dashboard and into the doors, integrates touch-sensitive controls and dynamic ambient lighting, while elegantly concealing the air vents. Underlining the sporty character of the sedan, the All-New Locally Assembled BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro features M Leather steering wheel, M seat belts and M headliner anthracite.

Within the All-New Locally Assembled BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro, Dark Silver M accent combined with Carbon Fibre and high-gloss silver threads, BMW individual Merino genuine leather upholstery reinforces the vehicle’s premium character. Additionally, the panorama glass roof enhances the sense of openness in the cabin and is complemented by a retractable shade for added flexibility. Meanwhile, comfort and convenience are elevated with fully electric sport seats with memory function and lumbar support, comfort access system, travel & comfort system, roller sunblinds, four-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging tray, and the interior camera with still-image and video capture capabilities. Space in the rear section is as generous as the front section, giving passengers more freedom of movement, both in the footwell and in terms of headroom. Meanwhile, a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System with 17 speakers and 655-watt amplifier, in combination with the BMW IconicSounds Electric, delivers a class-leading acoustic experience for both driver and passengers.

Under the hood, the All-New Locally Assembled BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro delivers electrifying performance with maximum range, courtesy of an updated fifth-generation BMW eDrive system. The rear-mounted electric motor produces up to 250 kW / 340 hp and 430 Nm of torque, achieving 0–100 km/h in just 6 seconds, with a top speed of 193 km/h. A major enhancement for the model is silicon carbide (SiC) converter upgrades, alongside new battery and thermal management technologies – including adaptive recuperation and an intelligent heat pump system that efficiently manages cabin, drive, and high-voltage battery temperatures. This contributes to its extended range, enabling the All-New Locally Assembled BMW i5 eDrive40 to achieve up to 513–627 km (WLTP) on a full charge. Charging capabilities include up to 22 kW of AC charging, allowing for 0-100% charge in 4 hours 15 minutes and up to 205 kW DC fast charging, allowing for 10–80% in just 34 minutes. Adaptive Suspension Professional with Integral Active Steering comes standard, enhancing agility, stability, and manoeuvrability by enabling the rear wheels to steer up to 2.5°.

Additionally, the All-New Locally Assembled BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro is equipped with comprehensive Driving Assistance Systems. As standard, the Driving Assistant Professional includes Distance Control with Stop & Go, Steering & Lane Control Assistant, Speed Limit Assist, Side Collision Protection with Active Return, Road Priority Warning and Wrong-way Warning, the front and rear Crossing-traffic Warning with braking function as well as the Emergency Lane Assistant and Emergency Stop Assistant functions. Meanwhile, the standard Parking Assistant Plus features start monitoring, Reverse Assist Camera, Reversing Assistant, Parking View, Panorama View front, 3D View functions, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and anti-theft recorder.

Powering connectivity within the All-New Locally Assembled BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro, the BMW Operating System 8.5 with QuickSelect provides intuitive, smartphone-like interaction, while BMW Maps delivers charge-optimised navigation tailored for the fully electric model. Introducing a 110 mm extended wheelbase and an overall length increase of 116 mm, the All-New BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport enhances both the presence and interior spaciousness of the all-rounded BMW iX1 line-up. The SAV has an updated enclosed grille design which features Extended Shadowline trim – an effect that is also seen with the diffuser and side sill elements. Another identifier of the grille design are lines and surfaces that extend outwards in the shape of an X. Meanwhile, the slender wrap-round Adaptive LED headlights with high-beam assistant are enhanced with M Lights Shadowline. From the side, flush door handles and square wheel arches – housing 19-inch M light-alloy wheels Double-spoke style 871 M Bicolour – accompany the elongated silhouette. Rounding off the rear are three-dimensional taillights, with full-LED technology in a stylised L-shape. Other exterior elements include M Roof rails in high-gloss Shadowline and exterior mirror package. Luggage capacity is measured at 490 litres, expandable up to 1,600 litres and accessible via automatic operation of tailgate.

Inside, the extended wheelbase of the All-New BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport offers an extended 81 mm of legroom and 107 mm of kneeroom. The seats have also been updated with a softer foam and a 15 mm extension to the cushion base. From the driver’s seat, the BMW Head-Up Display and BMW Curved Display with BMW Operating System 9 provide intuitive information and controls, while M Leather steering wheel and Aluminium Hexacube Pale M interior trim highlight the sporty characteristics of a BMW SAV. The biggest addition to the interior is the introduction of the Panoramic Skyroof with no central bar to disrupt the wide-open view range, accompanied by an electric opaque fabric shade to ensure maximum privacy. This is in addition to other comfort features, such as sport seats for driver and front passenger, electric seat with memory function, luxury instrument panel, automatic air conditioning, wireless charging tray, comfort access system, as well as 205-watt Harman Kardon Hi-Fi Loudspeaker System with 12 speakers.

Powered by one compact electrically excited synchronous motor (EESM) on the front axle, the All-New BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport produces 150 kW / 204 hp and 250 Nm of torque, completing 0–100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with a top speed of 175 km/h. A new comfort-focused suspension system has been tuned specifically for the All-New BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport to offer greater comfort on the drive. Meanwhile, the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology includes charging hardware and high-voltage battery cells mounted flat in the floorpan – the 66.5 kWh (gross) battery delivers up to 433 km of range (WLTP). Charging via 11kW AC allows for 0–100% in 6 hours and 45 minutes, while the DC Charging speed of up to 130 kW allows for 10–80% in 32 minutes – 120 km of range can be added in just 10 minutes.

Now included as standard, the Driving Assistance Plus offers Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Steering & Lane Control Assistant, Speed Limit Info and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Return. Meanwhile, Parking Assistant Plus remains as standard, providing Surround View, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and Park Assist Professional with Line and Curb detection – delivering a comprehensive safety suite designed for urban mobility. Active pedestrians safety and acoustic protection for pedestrians are also included as standard.
