BMW Group Malaysia partners with Selangor Technical Development Centre to advance Malaysia's automotive technical education for the Electric Vehicle era.
The BMW Next Generation Technician (BMW NextGT) initiative is part of the premium automaker’s long-term commitment toward the Future of Mobility in Malaysia – cultivating world-class technical excellence and fostering local talent equipped to thrive in a new era of electrified innovation.
Kuala Lumpur, 11th November 2025 – BMW Group Malaysia today signed a partnership agreement with the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC), announcing a partnership to advance Malaysia's technical and vocational education ecosystem through the BMW NextGT programme.
This collaboration marks another milestone in BMW Group Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to nurturing local talent and building a sustainable, future-ready automotive ecosystem. This partnership is set to equip a new generation of automotive technicians with world-class skills and expertise to meet the evolving demands of the automotive industry – particularly within the fast-advancing landscape of Electric Vehicle (EV) technology. Through this initiative, BMW Group Malaysia and STDC are shaping future-ready talent to lead Malaysia's transition towards a more innovative and electrified automotive future.
As part of the collaboration, automotive technical trainers from STDC will undergo extensive, hands-on training developed under the BMW Technician Qualification Framework. The programme will immerse participants in comprehensive technical knowledge, with specialised modules including current modern automotive technologies and concepts.
Upon completion, these trainers will deliver this expertise to qualified vocational students enrolled in the BMW NextGT programme, enabling them to graduate with cutting-edge, industry-standard knowledge and skills relevant to both conventional and electrified vehicle technologies.
Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia states, “Today the automotive industry is undergoing its most transformative era, and with it comes the need for a workforce that can drive this innovation forward. Our collaboration with STDC through the BMW NextGT programme is built on the foundation of belief that investing in education and technical development is key to shaping the Future of Mobility in Malaysia. By empowering trainers and students with the skills and knowledge aligned with BMW’s global standards, we are cultivating the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards the future of the automotive industry here.”
Meanwhile, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Bin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor said, “We are honoured by the trust and confidence that BMW Group Malaysia has placed in the Selangor State Government through this collaboration with the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC). The BMW NextGT programme reflects Selangor’s commitment to cultivate the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards a sustainable, future mobility. We sincerely appreciate BMW Group Malaysia’s confidence in nurturing local talent. This initiative demonstrates the power of partnership between government and industry in advancing technical and vocational excellence, while empowering our youth with world-class skills and knowledge to position Selangor as a leading hub for advanced automotive technology and sustainable innovation in the region.”
The BMW NextGT programme is scheduled to roll out in 2026, beginning with a collaboration involving Auto Bavaria, Millennium Welt, and Quill Automobiles as initial dealer partners, with plans to extend the initiative to additional BMW dealers from 2027 onwards.
The BMW NextGT initiative is an embodiment of BMW Group Malaysia's commitment to cultivating a top-tier technical workforce well-prepared for the developing automotive industry, building upon the foundations from the BMW Technical Training Programme (BTTP) and BMW High Voltage Expert (HVE) certification programme which are already well established in Malaysia.
Led by the BMW Group Regional Training Centre, the internationally recognised BMW High Voltage Expert (HVE) certification programme has been instrumental in developing Malaysia's EV workforce, equipping technicians with the expertise to service and repair the most advanced BMW i vehicles worldwide.
This long term commitment to talent development is also embedded within BMW Group Malaysia's Heritage in Motion philosophy, through which the premium automaker continues to define progress, while staying true to the values of innovation that have guided the company since the 1970s, ensuring Malaysia remains at the forefront of the development taking shape in the automotive industry.
