PROBABLY THE BEST CO-DRIVER EVER.

BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the BMW 2 Series Coupé.

The BMW 2 Series Coupé is already equipped with a reliable front-seat passenger: the numerous assistance systems from BMW ConnectedDrive. They support the driver and allow him to really enjoy the unique driving experience. They give timely warning when needed and help you park. Or lend a hand when manoeuvring with the Rear View camera acting as a third eye. The BMW 2 Series Coupé is a reliable partner that lets you concentrate on the most important thing en route: the road.

DRIVING ASSISTANT.

The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the turn indicator has been activated. Whereas the Approach Warning with City Brake Activation detects vehicles, the Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation reacts to pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes heavily, the BMW responds immediately when the Approach Warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins blinking and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the brakes are lightly applied (when travelling at speeds under 60 km/h).
The Pedestrian Warning operates at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h and emits a single-level warning in the event of acute danger. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes. This function can be limited by darkness and fog.

iDRIVE TOUCH CONTROLLER.

The iDrive Touch Controller enables the iDrive system to be conveniently operated with a single hand. Thanks to the touchpad integrated in the Controller, the driver can easily enter information such as destinations in the navigation system using his or her own handwriting. It can also be used to access and configure numerous functions and scroll through lists. Operating the system is very simple and intuitive (based on a sense of touch). This makes life especially easy for the driver, since it keeps distraction from traffic to an absolute minimum. All functions operated using the Controller can be conveniently viewed in the Control Display.

SPEED LIMIT INFO

Better safe than sorry: the Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator displays the current speed limit as well as information on no-overtaking zones. This is shown on the Info Display in the instrument cluster. A special camera detects the relevant traffic signs. This information is processed by a control unit along with data from the navigation system. By incorporating additional features of the car, the system can also calculate variable speed limits – for instance in wet conditions or at different times of the day. This equipment is only available in conjunction with the Navigation System Business or Professional.

PARKING ASSISTANT

The Parking assistant makes parking parallel and perpendicular to the road easier. Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces – even tight parallel parking spaces – while driving past at a low speed (below 35 km/h) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars.
When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and the Parking assistant takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also shows supplementary instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals.
As the car slowly approaches an obstacle, the Parking assistant is automatically activated via the function "Auto PDC" (Automatic Park Distance Control). The system's enhanced functionality includes supporting the driver when parking in spaces that are perpendicular to the road. The PDC also emits a warning signal if the car becomes too close to obstacles on either side. So the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.

REAR VIEW CAMERA

The Rear View camera allows you to view the area behind the car in the Control Display while manoeuvring and parking. The rear view camera enhances visibility when reversing at speeds below 20 km/h, for example when parking.

Interactive track lines indicate whether the chosen parking space is big enough for the car and support the driver during parking by marking areas in colour on the Control Display. In conjunction with the tow hitch, the rear view camera makes the approach when hooking up a trailer easier with a practical zoom function.
